Luba Shabal Joins as Chief Impact Officer

October 7, 2024 – Ember Infrastructure Management ("Ember" or the “Firm”) has announced that Luba Shabal has been named Chief Impact Officer. Luba will be responsible for impact assessment, measurement, monitoring and value creation initiatives across Ember's portfolio companies, in addition to engaging with the Firm's limited partners to provide robust dialogue and reporting.

“Ember invests in businesses where commercial success and positive impact are inherently aligned. As Chief Impact Officer, Luba’s top priority will be to advise and support our portfolio companies in sustainability and other impact initiatives that can contribute to their growth and success,” said Elena Savostianova. “Luba will also lead our efforts to engage with limited partners who are increasingly interested in measuring the impact contributions of their investments. Luba brings a wealth of experience as an engineer, operator, and experienced IMM leader, so we’re delighted to welcome Luba to the Ember platform.”

"What drew me to Ember is the distinctive portfolio they’ve built and their commitment and character of the team,” said Luba Shabal. “As we face the increasing effects of climate change, we need to scale solutions that mitigate these challenges and enable humanity to adapt and thrive. This includes ensuring reliable access to resources like water, sanitation, waste management, and energy, while also reducing risks through decarbonization, water stewardship and building resilience into our infrastructure. I'm thrilled to be working alongside Ember's team to increase our positive impact for people and the planet."

Previously, Luba served as Head of Impact Measurement and Management at Closed Loop Partners, where she led efforts in impact assessment and reporting. Prior to her time at Closed Loop Partners, Luba worked at Reworld, formerly Covanta, one of the largest waste-to-energy companies in the U.S., where she focused on optimizing metals recovery and recycling operations. She began her career at EcoStandard Group providing environmental consulting.

Luba holds an MS degree from Columbia University, as well as an MS and BS degree from Moscow State University. Trained as an environmental engineer, she brings a strong technical foundation to her work in sustainability and impact management.
